Here’s a brief introduction about me and my journey in the world of makeup.
I get so much satisfaction in being a make-up artist. My career started in 2006 under Patel known on Instagram as @patelsdexterity, one of Nigeria’s best in Jos, Nigeria. I convinced her to teach me and I was glad to be her first student. I learned so much. Starting with the basic skills of make-up artistry to product knowledge. Being a pharmacist she insisted her students get familiar with the ingredients used in makeup manufacture and their benefits. I went further to get a diploma in advanced makeup artistry and image consulting form the ElitePro makeup institute in Madrid,Spain.
I put all I learnt into practice and also systematically self taught myself as I built my knowledge through books such as the beauty of colour by Iman, face forward by Kevyn Aucoin, Makeup manual by Bobbi Brown and the Mary Kay Way.
Now living in Nairobi, Kenya, I want the women in this part of the world to be
more open to try vibrant makeup colours, expressive styles and learn to use the right foundation shades. I find that African women, Kenyan women including, can be quite conservative about exploring makeup colours. I have come into the market when there is more interest in changing that. I want to be part of the change. I want to be part of the difference.
Join me, on my journey.
I am working on creating makeup primers and tools that are designed here on the continent for women of colour. A first for me and hopefully the beginning of a great series of events that fills my world and yours with colour and beauty.
On this blog, I will share tips, techniques, and the ins and out of my career’s journey in my field.
